Stepping out of your comfort zone is never easy...

But it's not impossible

Stepping out of your comfort zone is never easy...

But it's not impossible

Recreating your career can be terrifying, especially when you don’t have a clue what comes next. It can feel like an existential crisis, and it’s nobody’s idea of fun. But trust me – what’s on the other side of that fear is absolutely worth pursuing!

To figure out who I was when I wasn’t an academic, I focused on what was most important to me. I knew that my family and my health were crucial. So, I needed to find a way to take care of them better than I could when I was stressed out and overwhelmed.

I clarified my values, skills, aspirations, experience, and favourite things about what I had done previously. This process helped me to recognise what I was good at, but most importantly, what I loved to do.

I created a wish list.

It looked something like this:

Flexibility to be available for my family.

Connecting with people and hearing their stories. Letting them know they were seen, heard, and validated.

Using my knowledge, skills, and experience to empower others.

Working with motivated people who are ready and willing to make positive changes in their lives.

Teaching – but no marking, and only topics about which I am passionate.

Learning – but no assessment, and as above.

Writing – but no grant applications, literature reviews or research papers. Only fun things, like blogs, books, courses, and workshops.

No bureaucratic BS and definitely no staff meetings.

From this lofty wish list, the concept for Astute Coaching Services was born.

As an unapologetic introvert, I value connecting with a few people at a time and making sure I genuinely understand their perspective. Supporting my clients to identify their next best steps is like the best kind of adventure I can imagine!

As an INFJ, perception and empathy are two of my superpowers. These are foundational when working with my clients, both in a coaching and in a counselling capacity.

As a recovering academic, I am a stickler for evidence, so I also make sure the science supports my intuition. This is particularly important when I am providing training to organisations. I’m such a nerd that if I can’t reference it, I don’t use it.

Although it seems like an oxymoron, it’s fair to say that my default MO is “empirically supported intuition”.

Regardless of the mode of delivery, sharing the knowledge I have accumulated to help people find their own solutions is a privilege.

Accompanying clients on their journey and helping them chart their course to a better life is incredibly rewarding.

Seeing them implement new strategies and break through their limiting beliefs is a joy.

So, although getting to my pivotal point was painful, and navigating through it was difficult, I am so glad I did.

My purpose is to accompany others on their journey of self-discovery that leads to their version of happiness, fulfilment, and success. I help them to choose their desired destination, and we chart a course together.

With qualifications in psychology, counselling, and coaching, I bring a unique combination of head stuff and heart stuff to the service of my clients. I integrate the science and art of being your best and am passionate about empowering you to thrive in all aspects of life.

My clients are demographically and psychographically diverse, but they share one common characteristic: they have reached their pivotal point and they know something has to change.

It is my mission to empower them to navigate through their pivotal point, to see what is on the other side of their stuckness.

My personal vision is “excellence through connection”. My core values are authenticity, courage, contribution, and wisdom. Together, these fuel my greatest desire to help others to dream big and live their most fulfilling lives, whilst I aspire to do the same.

I think that’s quite enough about me! I’d love to know more about your story. If you are interested in connecting with me to explore how I can help you or your organisation, please schedule a chat with me.

Feedback from Clients

P.L.

“Kate is a professional and insightful practitioner, providing confidential individual support to help understand challenges, offering tools and techniques to become the best version of yourself. Kate encouraged me to step out of situations, view them with a wide lens and objectively identify the reason behind it. I now realise the value of a healthy mindset, believing in myself and focussing on what I can control. I accept myself for who I am and can learn from my mistakes, to do better next time and play with possibilities.”

B.M.

“Before I met Kate, my life was in chaos. I was completely overwhelmed and heading towards a very dark place. My first session with Kate was life-changing. She
helped me clarify the issues, prioritise, develop a plan, and make a start. She is professional yet empathetic, objective but human. She is very good at what she
does. My sessions with Kate are invaluable. I cannot recommend her highly enough.”

S.B.

“I find great benefit in talking to Kate. I am a guy who has deployed and
found it initially hard to get myself into a room with someone to deal with the ball of stress that I had turned into. After that first session, there was just an extreme sense of calm that you can always return to it with the strategies she builds with you. I can highly recommend her services to anyone who needs peace."
